This is truly bittersweet news to share. I have been in my studio space for almost 13 years; the longest-held address I have had since my childhood. I can vividly remember maneuvering around my pregnant belly to paint the walls with the help of friends and family. My children, now 11 and 14, grew up in this space. It has been my little haven and my creative space for so long. But it is time. Thank you, COVID-19. For my small business to survive a global pandemic, I've needed to re-imagine and re-configure things. I've needed to cut my overhead expenses as if I were going through the rainforest underbrush with a machete. And, after cutting all I could in the spring and summer and hoping for a better fall, it is time to face the inevitable. Even on the cusp of a vaccine, it will take quite some time for the wedding and event industry to recover. If I continue to pay rent and utilities without income, my photography business won't be around when it does. Thank you, COVID-19. I don't want to rant about the lack of assistance for small businesses during the pandemic. Suffice it to say, there was very, VERY little. And, there is no news of a re-imagined and re-configured stimulus plan. So, I know that I am not alone in the transition I am making as a small businessperson. Many have already had to make the decision to leave their spaces - and many more will follow. Main Street in South Glastonbury won't look the same anymore - nor will Main Street, America. Thank you, COVID-19. But maybe things are not supposed to look the same? I have always been drawn to the image of the mythological phoenix. And, (for the record), long before Albus Dumbledore introduced Harry Potter to his phoenix! 🙂 The phoenix dies and then obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor. So, I can either stay burned, or I can find a way to rise from the ashes. I have some VERY exciting ideas for what Carrie Draghi Photography is going to look like in the future. These are ideas that could only arise after everything has burned to ashes. Thank you, COVID-19. So, there is SWEET in bittersweet. And there is a new beginning at the end of this nightmare. Please stay tuned to see what t
I have seen a lot of lawns in the last week or so.... I have to say that this family’s is the greenest one I can recall seeing! And, I was happy to smell freshly cut grass.... it smells like summer. And, frankly, summer smells like HOPE! This is the last of the sessions I have photographed for the project... for now. Though, there is a chance I missed someone. I will be going back to double check. But, until then, let’s focus on HOPE! The next two weeks are supposed to be very critical for our community to stay under that curve we keep hearing about. May good health, joy and hope carry us through.

These times are unprecedented and uniquely challenging for all of us. As we #StayHome to snuggle our own families and to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, we are losing those unspoken connections that we share by simply being out-and-about in Glastonbury with our friends and neighbors.

This is my last birthday session of the front steps project - at least for now. Happy birthday to mom! She had each of the kids bring out something that was important to them at this point in their lives. And, obviously for mom and dad, this photo represents everything that is important to them!

And for all the photos that are “staged” most of the reality of our days right now is that they are anything BUT staged... they involve a little playing outside, a little productivity, a little snuggling, a little arguing, a lot of food prep, hopefully the right amount of time spent learning.... and I love the photos that tell that story, too. This is real life in April of 2020.

When I pulled up to the driveway at this family’s house, they had a few blankets spread out on their lawn. They have been spending their time outside with the baby. I can see this photo being pulled out MANY years from now as she shares with her Grandkids that she was just a tiny baby during the pandemic that happened in 2020. Hopefully she will never see another pandemic in her lifetime!
